Licensing & Requirements

All participating captains must hold a valid New York State Public Vessel (PV) operator's license issued by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation through its Marine Services Bureau. A Joint Pilot & Engineer (JP&E) license is a common credential for qualifying commercial passenger vessel operators on Lake George, although the appropriate license depends on the vessel and operation.

All vessels used to transport paying passengers must have a current NYS Public Vessel Certificate of Inspection issued by NYS Parks, authorizing commercial passenger service. The commercial operation must also hold the applicable LGPC Tour Boat Special Permit issued by the Lake George Park Commission. Current liability insurance and all applicable inspections are also required.

Port of Call verifies required credentials and tracks their expiration dates. Captains and vessels that do not meet applicable requirements cannot accept bookings.

Applicants currently pursuing a JP&E license or other required credentials may express interest, but cannot accept bookings until all required credentials and documentation have been verified.
